Le Portique is hosting The Story of Fixity, a project by artist Noémie Goudal, whose work explores landscape, humanity’s relationship with nature, and the emotions evoked by encounters with living beings. As part of the Normandie Impressionniste festival, a first chapter of the exhibition was unveiled.
For Un Été Au Havre, a photographic installation on the ground floor complements the initial installation, serving as a prologue to the larger work that occupies the two floors of Le Portique. Six photographs from the Démantèlements and Tropiques series illustrate Noémie Goudal’s fascination with landscapes as living tableaux in perpetual transformation.
The artist draws inspiration from geological theories that seek to explain the formation of mountains. She is also interested in the evolution of natural resources, as demonstrated in Tropiques, a metaphor for the way the jungle becomes a source of energy.
Adapted from a project originally conceived and developed for an industrial site in London, in collaboration with Artangel, The Story of Fixity is an immersive installation that evokes both time and space, inviting visitors on a poetic journey and a near-ontological experience. Through this work, the artist questions our relationship to the world and to landscape.
Like true living tableaux, landscapes in constant evolution, four screens create new colorful and shifting reliefs whose contours continually change and fluctuate. An invitation to travel into the depths of the earth.
