Didier Mencoboni presents an artistic event inspired by a rare optical and atmospheric phenomenon, the famous green ray of the sun, which can be observed in the last minutes of sunset if several conditions are met: for a brief moment, a green ray of light appears in the upper crown of this celestial body …

This phenomenon will cross several neighbourhoods. It will gradually and progressively take over the city, the shops and the public space, as well as the private spaces of the people of Le Havre. Multiple accomplices will also take part in this creation, as Le Rayon Vert is powered by the initiative of the people of Le Havre who appropriate it. The more the people who live or work on its trajectory feed it, they more it will be seen, the more it will swell and exist.

Like a flash mob, it is the accumulation and multiplication made possible by inhabitants that forms a monumental work, shared by the people in the various districts of its trajectory, bringing Gaël Charbau's wish to life as art "crosses the city".

So, keep an eye out, Le Rayon Vert might not be that far away – and it might even be right next to you!

Le Rayon vert forms part of La Couleur cinq fois, Didier Mencoboni's first reactivable work for the public space, commissioned by the National Centre of Plastic Arts and installed in Mouans-Sartoux from 2022 to 2023.
