Lives in Paris

Sophie Duplaix is the head curator of contemporary collections at France’s national modern art museum, the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The many group exhibitions that she has overseen include Sons & Lumières. Une histoire du son dans l’art du XXe siècle (Sound and light, a history of sound in art in the 20th century) (with Marcella Lista) and Paris-Delhi-Bombay…, 2011 (with Fabrice Bousteau). She has also run solo exhibitions including Gina Pane. Terre-Artiste-Ciel, 2005, devoted to the French performance pioneer, as well as retrospectives looking back at the work of Annette Messager (Annette Messager. Les Messagers, 2007), Jacques Villeglé (Jacques Villeglé. La Comédie urbaine, 2008-2009), Mike Kelley (2013) and Jean-Luc Moulène (2016).

She also heads a seminar for the Ecole du Louvre and the Ecole national supérieure des beaux-arts, looking at the scientific management of contemporary works of art, installation and performance.
