“Seine-Maritime County Council is happy and proud to be a partner of the 500th anniversary celebrations of the city and port of Le Havre. Founded by Francis I, Le Havre has continued to expand over the centuries, overcoming the tragedy of the Second World War to become the largest container port in France, the world’s biggest port for wines and spirits and the most populated town in our département.
For us, Le Havre is one of the symbols of Seine-Maritime, a city that features on UNESCO’s world heritage list, sitting at the mouth of our river and animating the estuary, where the magnificent Côte d’Albâtre (alabaster coast) begins. I look forward to some truly festive celebrations that will provide a source of social cohesion and enrichment for everyone who lives here.”
