Baptiste Debombourg excels in divulging the unspoken, revealing stories from silence, throwing light on shadows. Behind his sculptures and their materials, stories are sheltered or exposed. This artist deliberately seeks to ‘repair’, although as he heals damaged walls, broken furniture and other fractured objects, he never masks their scars.

The resulting works are monumental yet full of paradoxes, laden with frailties and vulnerabilities. Yes, monuments, but convalescing monuments. They do not celebrate power, instead commemorating partial destruction, incomplete repair or indeed resilience. Beyond their sometimes ironic appearance, these reconstructions should be approached as a reflection on time, history, memory and dreams.
