Born in 1977 in Ain
Lives in Montreuil, France

Born in 1977, Alexandre Moronnoz graduated from ENSCI – Les Ateliers (French National Institute for Advanced Studies in Industrial Design, in Paris) in 2003, after attending a preparatory class in applied arts at ENS Cachan. He has worked as a freelance designer in Paris ever since, alternating between research projects, commissioned works, and collaborations to explore different environments.

His first collaborations with design agencies led him to work on both commissioned works and his own research projects, helping him develop a contextual design approach where meetings are opportunities to invent new objects or space proposals as a collective process.

For Alexandre Moronnoz, each project is an opportunity to apply a new design approach, through prospective or research projects, or through commissioned projects with practical issues which do not prevent new objects from emerging.

His urban seating projects are further opportunities to experiment with new ways of looking at, apprehending, and using the public space. These research works earned him several awards : a Design Star award in 2009 for the Muscle project, and, also in 2009, the CCC project was rewarded by the City of Paris Grand Prize jury.

By delaying the moment when the final design of an object emerges, he is able to gather as much information as possible to develop each project. For Alexandre Moronnoz, design work requires a lot of attention to detail to be able to find solutions that will contribute to the environment.
